Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Afraid

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

Life can be scary. Fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, even school shootings have become more prominent. Our littles need to be reminded that God is with them through every circumstance. We need to remember that sometimes God moves us out of harm’s way, sometimes he brings us through harm, and sometimes he stands with us in the middle of it.

Afraid Jesus Session

Being afraid is normal and healthy. Our body and mind respond to dangerous situations to help us keep safe. Being brave doesn’t mean we’re not afraid, it means we move forward even through fear.

Books on Afraid can be found on theStoryGraph.

The CDC has some helpful information about children’s responses to natural disasters, including some things to look out for such as:

May return to behaviors they have outgrown like bed-wetting.

Scared about being separated from their parents/caregivers.

Has tantrums or is frustrated.

Shows unusual disobedience.

Has trouble sleeping.

Stays away from others.

Not interested in playing.

Other helpful information can be found at the Red Cross or Nemours Kids Health.

Afraid Art Session

Art is therapeutic. As we learn about God being with Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego, we learn about him being with us as well.

Afraid Music Session

Deep breathing is also therapeutic. We did breathing with our music. We breathed in to “when I am afraid” and out to “I will trust in you.”

Music can be comforting, which is why we’ve made the following playlist for you.

Here are some videos to help kids who are afraid.
