Miracles Unit teacher guide

Luke 18:27 What is impossible with man is possible with God. The JAM Sessions Miracles Unit is about the power of God being used to do miracles of healing, provision, and comfort.

Week 1

Jesus Session: Week 1 This week we look at Jesus’ first recorded miracle, turning water into wine. This miracle shows that God cares about his people.

Art Session: We will be making a jug with a turning piece behind to switch the water into wine –fun craft.

Music Session: Introduce Impossible Possible, our choir song.

Week 2

Jesus Session: Lots of fish! When Jesus performs the miracle and Peter’s nets are overloaded with fish, God provides. And, he doesn’t just provide what they need to eat, but above and beyond so they can sell the fish as well. When God provides, he goes big!

Art Session: So many good techniques in this craft! I love the threading.

Music Session: Learn the words. Learn the notes. Then put them together.

TIP: This would be a fun week to hand out goldfish snacks!

Week 3

Jesus Session: Jesus heals. We know that oftentimes God heals through doctors and medications and healthy eating and sometimes God’s healing comes only when entering heaven, but this week’s miracle is an instantaneous healing. Amazing.

Art Session: I love flipping this guy back and forth and remembering how immediate the healing was.

Music Session: Work on memorization.

Week 4

Jesus Session: Can you even imagine? These men bring their paraplegic friend for healing and Jesus says, “Your sins are forgiven.” Um. Not expected. I love how Jesus’ miracles benefit not only the one healed, but the people around them too.

Art Session: This project would be great with all fabric. If you have access to fabric scraps, I would use them. If not, paper works just fine.

Music Session: Introduce the kiddos to the idea of singing in front of other people.

Week 5

Jesus Session: This week we learn about a woman who had a back problem that Jesus healed, but we also talk about how many other healing miracles Jesus did.

Art Session: We use bandages today to represent the hurts that need healing. Be sure to mention that oftentimes hurts are not visible, but they are just as important and God can heal them too.

Music Session: Let parents know all the whens and wheres of next week with this reminder.

TIP: If there are know needs of healing, take time to pray for them in class.

Week 6

Jesus Session: Ultimate healing! Being brought back from the dead. But was this a miracle of healing? Or provision? Or comfort? Miracles can be a combination. They can be all three.

Art Session: Spoon Lazarus makes me laugh. You can easily swap masking tape for the medical tape if cost or access is difficult.

Music Session: Have fun singing!
