Little JAM Sessions: Suit Up!

Putting on the full armor of God.

The armor of God is a fun visual for littles. It’s a good way to remember what God can provide for us to be strong.

Week 1

Jesus Session: Week one is the Belt of Truth. Telling the truth is important. God always tells the truth. I like to think of the belt as holding the rest of the outfit together, keeps your pants from falling down. It’s hard to have the rest of the armor without starting off with truth. We talk about Joseph’s brothers and how they did not tell the truth and how that was hurtful.

TIP: Asking the kids questions at the beginning of class let's them get out the words building up in them. It also allows you the opportunity to later ask them to be quiet and remind them they already had their turn to speak.

Art Session: We make belts of many colors, combining the Belt of Truth with Joseph’s many-colored robe.

TIP: There are 3 crafts of different levels for each lesson. Besides the craft here, there are coloring sheets and coloring sheets with an added element. Check the craft instructions download for all directions.

Music Session: We introduce “Suit Up” Be sure to learn the new song!

Week 2

Jesus Session: We are defining righteousness as doing what is good and fair. Noah was righteous and saved his family.

Art Session: We make a Breastplate of Righteousness with animals all over to remind us of Noah.

Music Session: Separating melody and lyrics can be helpful in the beginning, but ultimately, it’s the combination that helps them remember.

Week 3

Jesus session: This week is the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace. Shoes keep us protected while we share God’s love with others.

Art Session: You will probably need to help most of them tie the shoes. Ask if they want help.

Music Session: Think about memorization.

Week 4

Jesus Session: The Shield of Faith is represented by Joshua and the battle of Jericho. It took a lot of faith to obey God’s out -of-the-box battle plan.

Art Session: The blocks in the background represent the walls of Jericho.

Music: Show students how they will be standing on stage. The sooner they understand this, the more fluid it will be.

Week 5

Jesus Session: The Helmet of Salvation protects your brain. Nicodemus really had to think about salvation. It’s not until later in the Bible that we realize his decision.

Art Session: I love the shiny aluminum foil on these helmets. You could also use silver pain tor glitter instead.

Music Session: Let parents know what to expect next week. Here’s a template for a note to send home.

Week 6

Jesus Session: The Sword of Truth is another name for the Bible and the only offensive piece of armor. Memorizing God’s word is a great weapon.

Art Session: Kids love little plastic jewels. You could also use glitter or anything else that’s shiny.

Music: Smile!

TIP: When your class has learned a song but you're not scheduled to sing it in church, do your own Mini concert for family. Have parents stay at pickup for the kiddos to sing their song.
