the true meaning of easter for littles
the true meaning of easter for littles

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Easter

Thessalonians 4:14a For we believe that Jesus died and rose again.

Happy Easter! He is risen; he is risen indeed!

Easter Jesus Session

To be age appropriate, we gloss over Good Friday and head straight into Easter. New Life is the focus here. Jesus raised from the dead and gave us new life. With more time at home, you can dive deeper in and we’ve provided videos at the bottom to help you with that.

Easter Art Session

Focusing on new life, we make an Easter Egg card. We use tearing paper which is a really great preschool skill using fine motor-skills and bilateral movement.

Easter Music Session

We sing about Jesus being alive and we use fun large motor-skill motions.

Celebrate Easter with this great playlist.

Sing Hosanna to the King! Palm Sunday
Sing Hosanna to the King! Palm Sunday

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Palm Sunday

Matthew 21:9b Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!

Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy week and, goodness, how quickly things change!

Palm Sunday Jesus Session

In Zechariah 9, it’s prophesied that the king and savior will ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. Palm Sunday fulfills that prophecy. Jesus’ popularity had been growing. People had heard about his miracles. So, when Jesus rides in on a donkey, they think great – now he’ll kill all the Roman soldiers and we’ll no longer be oppressed! Woo! While they celebrated him, they didn’t really understand him, which is why in just a few short days they turn against him. With the benefit of hindsight, we see that him being king and savior was not a political or racial ideology, but an act of love for the entire human race. He offers salvation to each and every one of us.

Palm Sunday Art Session

We make a cute palm branch and remember to celebrate and respect our King of Kings.

Palm Sunday Music Session

We learn and sing about Hosanna, a word of admiration and praise.

We celebrate Jesus’ reign with the following playlist for you.

comfort for preschool kids in crisis

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Afraid

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

Life can be scary. Fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, even school shootings have become more prominent. Our littles need to be reminded that God is with them through every circumstance. We need to remember that sometimes God moves us out of harm’s way, sometimes he brings us through harm, and sometimes he stands with us in the middle of it.

Afraid Jesus Session

Being afraid is normal and healthy. Our body and mind respond to dangerous situations to help us keep safe. Being brave doesn’t mean we’re not afraid, it means we move forward even through fear.

The CDC has some helpful information about children’s responses to natural disasters, including some things to look out for such as:

  • May return to behaviors they have outgrown like bed-wetting.
  • Scared about being separated from their parents/caregivers.
  • Has tantrums or is frustrated.
  • Shows unusual disobedience.
  • Has trouble sleeping.
  • Stays away from others.
  • Not interested in playing.
  • Other helpful information can be found at the Red Cross or Nemours Kids Health.

Afraid Art Session

Art is therapeutic. As we learn about God being with Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego, we learn about him being with us as well.

Afraid Music Session

Deep breathing is also therapeutic. We did breathing with our music. We breathed in to “when I am afraid” and out to “I will trust in you.”

Music can be comforting, which is why we’ve made the following playlist for you.

Afraid Music Playlist

Here are some videos to help kids who are afraid.

Lesson on hope and noah’s ark

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Hope

Romans 15:13a May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace.

Hope is believing something good will happen without any evidence of it.

Hope Jesus Session

Can you imagine never seeing rain and just hearing about it? How would you describe rain to someone? Noah and never seen or felt rain, and, yet, God told him it was going to rain, and rain so much that the earth would flood. Oh, and, he needed to build a really big boat. And fill it with animals. I can’t imagine being told all of that and just having to believe it. But Noah did. He had hope in God and in his plan. Even when he didn’t understand it. Even when people made fun of him.

Hope Art Session

Color and mixing colors is just so fun. The kids had to Hope that mixing the colors was going to make new colors.

Hope Music Session

We do lots of motions with our songs to strengthen our large motor skills.

Music is such a great way to learn concepts, which is why we’ve made the following playlist for you.

A little faith can do big things

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Faith

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Moses is a complex character. Adopted. Leader. Murderer. Chosen. Prophet. Humble. Refugee.

Faith Jesus Session

Today we concentrate on how Moses had Faith when faced with an impossible situation. He could not see the outcome but absolutely believed that God had a plan. And, wow, did he. The parting of the Red Sea is an unexpected but perfectly problem solving miracle.

Faith Art Session

This cute Red Sea is a great reminder that God cares about us and has a plan for us even if we can’t imagine what that plan might be.

Faith Music Session

We sang a fun song about what a big God we serve.

Music is such a great way to learn concepts, which is why we’ve made the following playlist for you.

The Story of Grace and the prodigal son

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Solo JAM Session: Grace

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith.

The story of the Prodigal Son can be found in Luke 15:11-32. It’s a fascinating parable. We’re focusing on the act of the the father welcoming home the son, even though he really doesn’t deserve it. This is Grace.

Grace Jesus Session

The Prodigal Son really really messed up. He was selfish, entitled, and ungrateful. And, yet, his father welcomed him home with a party. And that’s how God welcomes us.

Grace Art Session

Welcome Home is probably what the Prodigal Son never imagined but secretly longed to hear. We make a fence gate with a welcome home sign to remind us of God’s unconditional love for us.

Grace Music Session

We sang a fun song about Grace.

Music is such a great way to learn concepts, which is why we’ve made the following playlist for you.

Golden Rule Music Playlist

Guide to The golden rule for preschoolers

Little JAM Sessions preschool ministry curriculum:

Caregiver’s companion guide to Little JAM Sessions Golden Rule.

Matthew 7:12a In everything, do to others what you would want them to do to you.

Treat others like you want them to treat you. NOT, treat others like they treat you. If your preschooler can recognize the different between those two concepts and choose the first over the second, they will be following the Golden Rule.

Golden Rule Jesus Session

We use the example of a swing. *This is why they made a swing craft.

We ask them if they are on the swing and someone else has been waiting for a tune, what should they do? They should consider how they would feel if the roles were reversed and ultimately decide to let the other person have a turn. If you have a park or playground near you, this would be a fantastic opportunity to try this out!

Golden Rule Art Session

This swing is too cute! We use lots of fine motor skills in this craft: coloring, gluing, threading. All of these are great for the development of your preschooler.

Golden Rule Music Session

In our Music Session, we sang one of our favorite songs and we took turns playing instruments. This sharing reiterates the lesson we just learned.

Music is such a great way to learn concepts, which is why we’ve made the following playlist for you.
